A finales de 1997 el mundo descubrió un enorme grupo de tiburones ballena que visitaban la
desembocadura del río Donsol durante generaciones, algo desconocido para los habitantes
de esa pequeña zona costera. Expediciones organizadas para ver e interactuar con estos
enormes tiburones ballena llevaron a este municipio a ser un desarrollado destino eco-
turístico de la noche a la mañana.
Prepararos para poner a punto vuestros equipos de snorkelling y nadar con los peces mas
grandes que existen, con mas de 50 pies (15 metros) y mas de 13 toneladas de peso en las
aguas de Donsol. En un solo día se pueden llegar a ver mas de 8 ejemplares y se han
llegado a contar entre 50 y 60 ejemplares asiduos especialmente entre los meses de
Febrero a Mayo, aunque empiezan a llegar entre Octubre y Noviembre cada año.
Los tiburones ballena (butandings como los llaman localmente Rhincodon Typus) son
extremadamente gentiles, únicamente se alimentan de plancton, a pesar de que por su boca
podría colarse un ser humano… Muy cerca de esta zona también se encuentra el Manta
Bowl, en el cual se puden ver grandes mantas y en ocasiones los tiburones zorro marino
(thresher shark o Alopias vulpinus) y tiburones martillo (Sphyrna mokarran).
Donsol esta situado al sureste de Manila y aunque se puede llegar por carretera, es
aconsejable tomar un vuelo hasta Legaspi de menos de 1h y 30 minutos por carretera.

Manta Bowl
Manta Point – During peek season there is a big possibility to see big shoal of great Mantas.
If you are lucky you will see the rare thresher shark and the shy hammerhead. Whale sharks
are commonly seen swimming past us when the right conditions exist so look around you.

Shallow point- During peek season there is a big possibility to see big shoal of great Mantas,
Barracuda and sharks.

San Miguel Island (The macro heaven)
The Wall – The place for Sea slugs and eagle ray on the sand slope (No current to medium
strong current)
Three Caves – Caves packet with Sea slugs, sea snails and Nudibranchs. The Soft coral
garden is untouched and unique.

Eagle ray Corner – If you want a picture of the famous Blue Ribbon Eel this is the place.

The Cave – A small cave system with access to the surface inside of the cave (No current to
weak current)
Nicos Corner – Beautiful Shoal of fish (Medium strong to very strong current)
Ticao
St Jerome's Rock - Is an exclusive dive that you will love. It is a 70 foot (20m) drop from the
blue to a small rock full of fishes. It is located in the western side of Ticao.

The Abyss - Series of DEEP WALLS near St Jerome's Rock. Good for both recreational and
technical dives. (No current to strong current)
San Bernardino Strait
Calantas Rock - A small islet with a lighthouse in the middle of San Bernardino Strait in
Matnog. Big fish action. 2 1/2 hours travel by big boat from Altamar Ticao.

DEEP TECHNICAL WRECKS
Otavi Wreck - 180 foot (55m) descent into a tanker wreck. Fantastic marine life around this
wreck. Shoal of giant barracudas.
Guinadap Wreck - Small Japanese freighter at 160 feet (49m). Good fish life. Shoal of jack
fish.
